History and Mission

JStengel Consulting was founded in 2000 with a clear mission, "To Provide Outstanding, Ethical Technology and Business Guidance." After spending a number of years in the IT industry, the company's founder, John Stengel, grew disgusted with the practices of many consultants and firms, which were more concerned with billable hours and selling high profit products than focusing on their clients' businesses.

At JSC, we believe an IT firm should act as a support department, recommending products and services that increase employee productivity, providing direction for future growth and preparing a business to quickly recover from unexpected disasters. And it is equally important that an IT firm demonstrate to clients how to get the most from their current technology and maximize their return on investment.

Our goal is to always look at the big picture. We are well educated and well rounded, and at JSC, we understand the problems the accounting department has, we know what issues are driving the HR department, and we know how important inventory control is to a company's bottom line. By understanding all facets of a business, we can truly provide total solutions.

Of course, one of the issues we run up against is "amateur" IT sleuthing, meaning someone's brother, cousin, or neighbor kind of knows a little about networking or setting up a PC. It is amazing how many professional business people trust their very complicated IT systems to undertrained and professionally uninsured friends and relatives just to save a few dollars up front. (Note: These types of IT people generally use a small business as a classroom and practice trial and error on that business's computer systems with little regard for lost data or future business goals).

Many who do this find out the hard way that they would have saved money (and headaches) had they turned to a professional firm in the first place. It is especially important for small business owners to realize that their businesses are responsible for not just their families, but also their employees' families. Therefore, they have to evaluate, "Is it worth the risk?" to trust their business IT operations to just anyone.

From years of experience, JSC can say without a doubt, the answer is "No." We have entered client sites where a part-time, partially qualified IT person recommended equipment for a small business that would run a mega conglomerate. The small business spent thousands it didn't need to spend.

In another instance, a small business was running most of its operations off of one computer that the business owner's son "managed." The computer was riddled with spam and spyware from AOL. Accounting programs, client lists and business contacts were stored on one computer that was hardly secure, since spammers could download private business information in a matter of seconds.

Single man operations simply cannot provide the support and guidance a business needs. By using a professional firm, your company will benefit from the knowledge that a vast array of people, who are dedicated to the IT profession, bring to the table. Talk with our staff, meet John Stengel in person...You will realize that we are different. We are honest and straight to the point. And that's the kind of IT industry John Stengel and JSC want to be part of spearheading.

Certainly, we understand that costs factor into a small business owner's decision to hire an IT consulting firm. We also understand that many times it's intimidating to try hiring a firm-- IT people have a reputation for coming across as arrogant and sometimes even weird.

That image isn't without some basis of truth, and unarguably, there are IT people like that. However, you won't find them at JSC. Our professional consultants are highly trained and knowledgeable, but they are also normal, everyday people, just like you. They won't talk down to you or throw a bunch of IT lingo at you just to impress you with their brilliance.

JSC is proud of its staff, not simply because they are the best the IT profession can offer, but also because they hold themselves to the highest ethical standards and have the utmost integrity. Yes, JSC is a business, but we will never sell you a bill of goods and then cut and run or recommend products simply because of a profit margin.

There are firms out there who come into a meeting with a preset agenda to sell you certain products no matter what your needs. For those firms, it's more important to land one big sale than to spend the time evaluating a company's needs and developing a long term partnership.

We couldn't be further from that. Rather, JSC consultants will thoroughly examine your business operations, speak with you about what you want your technology to do and then make recommendations. We have formed partnerships in the industry, but we are not on anyone's payroll, so to speak. Therefore, we are not required to sell a single solution, so we do not have a vested interest in selling you something that's not right for your business. Thus, you can trust that you are always getting the best IT recommendations for your particular business from JSC.

JSC specializes in forming long term partnerships with small and medium sized businesses. We have clients in a variety of industries from real estate to lumber manufacturing. While we are not a break-fix company, meaning we don't do "computer doctor" services, we are the leading business and IT consulting firm helping clients use their IT operations to profitably grow their businesses.
